February
2010 Update:
Hi Sherry, it's been
awhile since i checked out the hayshaker website,
I just went on now and read about Ciara. I am
sooo sorry, I feel so sad and I never knew her,
but I have one of her adorable babies. The news
brought tears to my eyes. We become so attached
to our animals, they become one of the family.
On a happy note, Miley is doing really well.
She has brought so much happiness into our lives.
She's my buddy, follows me everywhere and loves
to be a part of everything. She loves hiking
and going to the beach with us. :) Joe and I
bought a house over the summer, in Monroe, NJ,
it's in a nice wooded area. We did a lot of
renovations on it, and finally last week we
moved in! It has much more land for Miley to
run around on, it's nice and quiet. It seems
that every other person around here has a black
lab. Best dogs! Just wanted to let you know
we are very happy with our Miley. We hope to
get her a sister when she is around 2years old.
:)
Sorry again for your lose, we'll keep in touch.
Here is a picture of Miley from a couple months
ago.

"Kenny"
lives in CO

January
2009 Update:
Just wanted
to let you know that Kenny is doing great and
is already weighing in at around 80lbs. He is
still a little guy but is very stocky. I have
moved up to Aspen with him now and we play fetch
in 4 ft of snow everyday (talk about a workout).
He loves sitting by the window and watching the
snow fall and the birds. He is such a friendly
and people dog that it sometimes gets on some
of the housemates nerves cause he always has to
be a part of whatever anyone is doing. I cant
wait till the snow melts and it warms up so we
can go climb some of these mountains together
this summer. He has been the perfect bill of health
and has never needed to go to the vet for any
reason other than his vaccinations.

A Christmas
2009 Update:
Merry
Christmas and Happy New Year from SmithCottage!
It's been far too long since we've written, so
we wanted to send you and update and some pictures.
Our Kona girl is doing so well. She weighs in
at a healthy 78 lbs, has a beautiful coat and
such expressive eyes! She is also a total cut-up,
so smart and full of energy and drive. This year,
Kona retrieved her first grouse. Good Girl!
Everyone that meets her loves her. She is so gentle
and sweet with everyone and all the other animals.
We were very sorry to read of Ciara's passing,
and feel blessed to have one of her girls with
us. Thank you so much for breeding our beautiful,
loving companion and hunting partner!

March 2010
Update:
Hi Sherry,
All is well except for
the economy and the dreaded winter. I'll be glad
when it warms up some. Its about 60 today and
pretty nice so a nice change indeed. Riley is
doing great!
He loves life everyday.
Loves to play fetch and has some chew toys in
the house that he adores. He has been the best
dog ever. He loves attention. He rides to work
with me everyday and pretty much steals the hearts
of any customer that walk in. Alot of customers
come in and say "what a beautiful blockhead"
and I still have the ones "what is he mixed
with". LOL. I have a 20 X 80 run outside
of the building he goes in and spends several
hours a day in, the rest of the time he lays at
my feet at my desk. Repeat customers come in and
if he is outside say "where is Riley today?"
He rarely makes any noise at all. He only barks
if someone is at the door or he needs to go outside
NOW! LOL. His coat is so shiny it always looks
wet. He is super docile and he would not hurt
anything unless his clumsiness allows him to fall
on you. LOL
I still have not had him
fixed yet, I dread having to leave him overnight
at the vets office. He is never alone. He is always
with us whether we are at home, work or up in
the mountains at our camper or out in the boat.
He loves of course to go swimming after anything
you throw in the lake. He is always on lead or
with me, we never turn our dogs loose outside
on their own...........I don't think he would
go anywhere but I fear anything to ever happen
to him. Maybe I'm just an overprotective parent.
:)
I have enclosed some pics
for you to see, I hope they come thru alright.
Take care of yourself and keep those beautiful
dogs coming. I know that I look at him and think
I'd never get another dog when something happens
to him but if I ever do it will have to be a Hayshaker
Lab.

An Email Update:
Here are some updated
pictures of Sarge, he has been out duck or pheasant
hunting every weekend of the season so far.
He makes a couple or retrieves each weekend.
We hunt with about 10 dogs so he is really at
school every time he goes out. Another month
and he will be an expert.

March 2010
Update:
Sherry,
Sarge is doing very well. He hunted at least
every other weekend up until the end of season
in Jan. His thick fur really helps him in the
cold weather, we loves to dig the roosters out
of the deep snow. Here are a few recent pics.

"Gunner"
(2008 Red Collar Boy) lives with & is loved
by his family in Ozark, MO

January 2009
Update:
Sherry,
I wanted to give you an update and some recent
pictures on Gunner. He is doing great! He weighs
82lbs and is very healthy. We are so proud of
him and he is the envy of everyone of our neighborhood.
He listens and minds us (usually better the our
kids LOL). This is his first year I’ve had
him officially duck hunting. He absolutely loves
it. He doesn’t care if he has ice on his
coat or not. Last weekend he had is first encounter
with a goose that wasn’t ready to be brought
back to the blind. His eyes were huge. Needless
to say, Gunner did great.
January 2010
Update:
Gunner’s doing great
and he has learned how to make double retrieves.
He has been such a great addition to our family
and we wouldn’t know what to do with out
him. I have included
some pictures of him from the last month. The
pictures of him in action are within the last
few days.

A message
from Keetah's Foster Family:
I get tons!! of compliments
on how beautiful Keetah is and have even had
several people ask me if I know the breeder,
so I might be able to pass some leads her way
if I had a website to send them to. Keetah is
a GREAT dog. She is so happy, joyful and smart.
She is learning fast and has many of the service
requirements down...except for some loose leash
stuff! In only two lessons she was able to "nudge"
up high so she'll be able to open doors by pushing
a handicap button. She was the first to race
to her "mat" and lay down in the last
two beginner classes. She stays, waits, sits,
stands,
> lays, and watches on command (usually:-))
My 8-year-old daughter loves to lay out food
on the floor and make her "walk the gauntlet"
so Keetah is reallystarting to learn "leave
it" since she gets plenty of treats and
love from Elena when she is successful.
And she loves, loves
kids! And they love her. Rush City is a small
town andnearly every kid at school knows who
Keetah is. She has been to elementaryschool
plays and events, high school basketball, volleyball,
football and
social events. She has been "showed and
told" about in nearly every grade. Iget
asked all the time about how she is doing and
where she is if she is notwith me. The town
seems to have gotten behing the whole "service
dog" program with Keetah as the "service
dog" mascot. She has alot of lab in her
in terms of retrieving (now
if she would do it on cue instead of her "puppy
finds whatever is on the floor" retrieving
method.) She loves the water. We go to our school
track (the only place in Rush City that is totally
fenced in for her "off-leash" romps)
every day. It's rained
enough where the pole vault pit has water in
it which she discovered and now is a regular
play spot for her. We live by a creek and not
too far from the St. Croix River, both of which
she loves to swim in as well. Some hunter would
have had a great hunting dog! I am already dreading
when we will have to let Keetah advance to her
next level of training. I keep reminding the
kids (and myself) of what a wonderful service
dog she will make and that's why we are volunteering.
We love Keetah!
Hope the breeder enjoys
the photos. She provided the Hearing and Service
Dogs of Minnesota with a real winner.

"Kashi"

A message
from Kashi's Foster Family:
Hi Sherry! Here's some
info about Kashi. Sounds like they love her.
She is VERY sweet, loves
to play, loves people (especially kids) and
seems
quite smart. We took her camping last weekend,
and her favorite game was
jumping in and out of the camper (playing with
a toy). She looked like a
dock-jumping dog coming out. We didn't let her
do it TOO many times, but
she loved it while it lasted.
