Hayshaker Labradors
Health Guarantee
Hayshaker Labs offers the
following guarantee to the original buyer only.
We guarantee the puppy to be free of
PRA (progressive retinal atrophy) for up to 1 year of
age. If you suspect your puppy has PRA, it must be verified
by a certified Canine Ophthalmologist with CERF.
We guarantee the puppy to be free of hip dysplasia and
elbow dysplasia for up to 30 months of age. If your veterinarian
suspects a dysplasia problem, the x-ray showing this condition
must be verified by the OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for
Animals). This x-ray must be done before 30 months of
age.
If any of these conditions are verified, and the owner
wants to keep the dog, we will refund half of the purchase
price upon receiving a veterinarian's letter confirming
that the dog has been spayed or neutered. Otherwise,
the breeder will replace the dog with a puppy of comparable
breeding when available. The first puppy will have to
be returned to Hayshaker Labs (if you choose to have
your puppy replaced ) with its AKC paperwork. In any
case, all veterinary, diagnostic, return, and replacement
costs will be the owner's responsibility.
These guarantees are dependent upon demonstration
that the puppy has received adequate care and nutrition.
Anything that affects the development or well-being
of the puppy, such as abuse, neglect, trauma (i.e. jumping
in the air for Frisbees or other toys), or being used
for breeding will void these guarantees.
Although no breeder can truly “guarantee”
that a dog will be free from hereditary disorders, we
DO guarantee that we have researched pedigrees and health
clearances to the best of our abilities, and Hayshaker
Labs guarantee that we breed only healthy and sound dogs.
Hayshaker Labs uses only sound breeding stock to lessen
the occurrence of defects considered to be hereditary.
While we cannot "guarantee" that your dog
will be free of genetic defects, we do guarantee that
both parents were reported to be free of hip dysplasia
and hereditary eye diseases at the time of the breeding.
Copies of those reports will be provided in your puppy
packet. Listed are a few things to help avoid common
health issues in Labrador Retrievers.
Dysplasia: both hip and elbow dysplasia
are influenced by hereditary factors. Note that nutritional
and environmental factors also play a role in joint health.
Poor nutrition and excess weight can contribute to these
disorders, as can injury. Therefore, the new owner assumes
part of the responsibility for the orthopedic health of
their dog. As a condition of sale, you agree to feed a
good quality dog food /canine diet, and you agree to keep
the pup in good physical condition by allowing him or
her to exercise at will. You further agree to monitor
the pup/growing dog’s weight to ensure that s/he
does not become overweight. We recommend that you feed
your puppy a top quality food, helping maintain his/her
health. We will send your pup home with a week’s
supply of the food he is accustomed to eating.
Monitor your puppy to make sure it receives proper
exercise but does not get injured. Over or under exercising
your puppy can negatively impact its health. Do not
allow jumping on and off of furniture or stairs. Also,
keep the puppy off of slippery or damp flooring. Your
puppy will benefit from regular walks and from play
sessions in your yard. Avoid strenuous exercise and
do not jog your dog until he is at least 18 months old.
Although “agility” is a fun sport to be
involved with and offers an opportunity for team work
with your dog, it is well documented that jumping can
do major damage to growing joints, therefore you should
not participate in “jumping” activities
with your dog until s/he has reached at least 18 months
old. Do not allow your puppy to roughhouse with larger
or older dogs to avoid injury. All guarantees are also
void if puppy is spayed or neautered before 18 months
of age.
Our companion puppies are sold with
AKC limited registration (non-breeding). If the dog is
registered with AKC the dogs name MUST start with Hayshaker.
When the puppies go to their new homes their vaccinations
and worming schedules will be up to date.
We require that the puppy buyer take
the new puppy to their own veterinarian within 5 days
to be examined. If, FOR ANY REASON, the veterinarian is
not happy with the puppy, we will replace the puppy or
refund the purchase price upon the return of the puppy.
If at any time in the puppies life you are unable to
keep him or her, you agree to contact us, (we have the
1st right of refusal) so we can assist you in finding
a new home. We always want to know where our puppies
/ dogs are throughout their lifetimes.
Most of our puppies' dewclaws are left intact. However,
we do remove dewclaws on puppies intended for frequent
hunting and others by special request prior to one week
of age
Puppies will receive their first vaccinations at 6
weeks of age, and be dewormed at 4, 6 and 8 weeks of
age.
